Retirement creeps up on you.

So it’s never too soon to start planning how great YOUR LIFE can be... after you retire. If you’ve never thought about purchasing property in your Self Managed Super Fund, maybe now’s the time to start thinking about it.

The most important thing for you to think about when you’re buying property in your SMSF is that on average – if you believe what the experts say – properties double in value every 10 years. Work out how long you’ll still be working, and you’ll get some kind of an idea as to how much you’ll be retiring on.

If you have 20 years left to go, by rights – if you subscribe to the 10 year theory – the property will double in value two times. If it’s worth $500,000 now, it should be worth around $2 mil in 20 years’ time. And you’ll have only a small loan left on it.

This is a simplistic way of looking at it but it will certainly give you a good idea of where you’ll be in retirement.
